update manager could not refresh package list
« on: August 25, 2010, 12:38:21 am »
Hi. Update manager gives me the error message :

'W:Failed to fetch http://www.geekconnection.org/remastersys/repository/lucid/Packages.gz  404  Not Found
, W:Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/c-korn/vlc/ubuntu/dists/lucid/main/binary-i386/Packages.gz  404  Not Found
, E:Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

Fantastic build otherwise. Perfect for a beginner like me. Running it via virtual box on a 2007 Macbookpro as a trial run prior to a dual-boot install. By far the easiest and most 'out of the box working' distro I've run across... and I've tried quite a few. Thanks!

See this post. http://www.pinguyos.smffy.com/index.php/topic,8.0.html

But to fix it.

Code: [Select]
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:onestone/vlc
sudo apt-get update
sudo ppa-purge ppa:ppa:c-korn/vlc

That will fix the ppa for vlc. The other one isn't really needed. So just remove the repo from the sources.

Menu > Administration > Software Sources > Other Software

And find geekconnection.org/remastersys and remove it.

Great. Closed. Moved to Closed tickets.
When something is working, don't FIX it.
