Hey thanks for including Xchat in your distro. And speaking of which, is there any hope for a PinguyOS IRC channel? I have a feeling this community is going to grow pretty quickly, and IRC could be useful.

I would be more then happy to have a IRC channel, but this is something I will leave to the community to do.

* Jeff starts lurking #pinguyos on freenode server.

I know you can create any channel just by joining it on there, anyone know how to make it your own?

For general information on nickname or channel registration services, use "/msg nickserv help" or "/msg chanserv help". For specific information on registration, use "/msg nickserv help register" or "/msg chanserv help register".

An irc server and a default setup to it in xChat similar to linux Mint could facilitate community participation and tech support.

Anyone that knows how to set it up, please do it.

Then, send a PM or an e-mail to Pinguy, give him the details and also op powers in the channel.

He has already to much to do, if you care about PinguyOS, and you should, please help.

Alrighty, #pinguyos is now registered on Freenode. Going to read through the couple of pages of docs to refresh my memory on Admining an IRC channel.

The one and only, but that is a bit off topic :)

OT or not, Jeff's blog is a good read.

I know I started this thread, but I am a total IRC noob.  I have used it, and recognize it's power for community based chat and support, but that's about the extent of my knowledge. I would be glad to do some research and help out if needed.

I have to give credit where it's due. Jeff was the first person to review Pinguy OS. This is when it was just a post on the Ubuntu Cafe forum. I didn't have any proper download links for It, I was using Dropbox to host the Distro and a torrent.

I am really grateful for Jeff doing the review, because in no small part it's because of him that people started using Pinguy OS. I think Pinguy OS is a good Dristro and a Distro that needed to be made, that's why I made it and released it, but it doesn't matter how good I think it is if people don't write about it and promote it no one is going to know about it.

So thank you Jeff for doing a review on such a young Distro that many people wouldn't of done, and I hope as the Distro gets more popular so does your Blog.

By the way thanks for setting up an IRC channel.

By the way thanks for setting up an IRC channel.

So I *thought* I set it up properly - however after rejoining the IRC channel from home it is now telling me my nickname is no longer a channel operator and it didn't keep my topic set... I'll be around in it all afternoon if anyone wants to come help me get it all figured out :)
