cannot install 10.04.1.2 i686 on new laptop
« on: September 05, 2010, 06:49:35 am »
got the torrent off of reddit, burned it, all is fine, through POST and the main menu upon bootup. however, it gets ~1/2 second in on booting the live, (0.545352), and it hits a string: <c0104087> kernel_thread_helper+0x7/0x10

It freezes. cursor flashes, but will not take input. I can't do the standard Alt-PrScr REISUB so I know it hasnt even booted...

this happens on all dvd-based options save for memtest and booting from first HDD.

Hardware is this: http://www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/product/toshiba-toshiba-satellite-15-6-amd-athlon-x2-p320-laptop-c650d-00p-black-future-shop-exclusive-c650d-00p/10145890.aspx?path=f0bfcfbaadf87afc1bc15b8114552d49en02

Ideas?

problem isolated - looks like something in a recent kernel disagrees with my hardware...

How did you fix it? So if anyone else comes across this problem they will know how to fix it.
I'm the Pinguy OS developer.

Its something that i've actually traced back through to any mainline kernel above 2.6.31.xyz123.

I was able to get an old xubuntu 9.10 disk installed, and then tweaked with kernels, not all i need to do is track down the specific issues...

It also can be because of your CPU not supporting the kernel shipped with PinguyOS, Such As PAE etc..
