Update Manager Asking to fix Broken Packages
« on: September 07, 2010, 08:25:03 pm »
Howdy All,

So I went to run my system updates this afternoon and when I select 'install updates" I receive a message telling me I need to fix broken packages first and then it refuses to download or install any updates!

Now running
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get upgrade from terminal works just fine and
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get -f install did not resolve the issue (or report any broken packages). So what is up with the update manager and how can I fix it?

~Jeff

This is a problem with Mint Updater. It can't uninstall or install new packages it can only update existing packages. Docky yesterday replaced one of its packages so an old package needed to be removed and a new one installed.

I might not use Mint update in 10.10. I do like it but it does have a big flaw.

It's my understanding that Synaptic will no longer be shipped with Ubuntu beginning with 11.04... or so I read on the innerwebs. And Mint Update seems to be the update manager of choice for many. So, what are thoughts on a replacement?

At the moment Pinguy OS ships with 3 GUI ways to update. You have Synaptic (that will stay in Ubuntu until 11.04 and I will keep it in Pinguy OS for as long as possible) , the Mint Updater and Ubuntu Tweak. I will have a look at the Mint Updater for Linux Mint Debian and see if it's any different to the one used in Linux Mint (Ubuntu based).  I would like to keep Mint Updater but if this continues to be a problem then I am going to have to replace it.

I have the same problem, but from the beginning, I never get the updates.
 I try several installations.
In Synaptic there are not  appear to be any problems, I also try Recovery mode...
There are no solutions?

Go to Menu > Administration > Synaptic Package Manager and click on "Mark All Upgrades" then click "Apply"
