Help Needed: Backup Utilities

(1/1)

fatgiant:
Hi,

I need help finding a GOOD application to backup my settings and folders from my current installation of Ubuntu to PinguyOS.

I don't want to pick tons of unneeded garbage. Or to polute my new installation with settings that don't belong there, and I'm not experienced enough in Linux to know the difference between needed and garbage.

Basically, I want to keep the profiles of FireFox, Thunderbird, Chrome and a few other programs, my /var/www folder, documents, pictures and other personal folders, samba configurations, NFS mounts, and a few other things. I don't really feel like doing this one by one, but I will if I have to, I'm just hoping that there is an app to do it.

Something that can scan my system, ask me what to save, and save it. Then recover those settings after a clean install. I have a lot of hard drives, so no problem there.

Any ideas?

The new version of Ubuntu Tweak can do this now. Open Ubuntu Tweak and look for "Desktop Recovery".
I haven't tested yet so not sure how good it will be.
